The Evolution- Any bridge player above the level of beginner will be aware that not everyone plays the same bidding system. Strong club systems; ‘natural’ systems. Four-card majors; five-card majors. The Evolution- This well-researched and well-written book answers these questions. It traces the development of bidding systems from the earliest days of contract bridge through to the modern systems played at the highest levels of the game today. The Evolution- This book will appeal to everyone with an interest in the history of bridge. More than 50 systems are discussed, and the reader will discover how the fittest of these have survived and evolved, while many others have been thrown onto the scrapheap of history and become extinct. This edition (revised June 2017) contains some additional material and corrections. The author is a contributor of theoretical articles to various bridge magazines, including “The Bridge World” (USA), and “Bridge Magazine” (UK). He learnt to play bridge as a teenager and showed sufficient aptitude for the game to win the England Schools championship some eighteen months later. Now working his way towards Grand Master status, he has a number of tournament successes under his belt. He was selected to play for Yorkshire when younger, and more recently has played for Berks & Bucks.
